Ipad Tips and Tricks

  1. Take a screenshot of your iPad by pressing the homebutton and then quickly the lock button. The screenshot will automatically be saved to your photos
  2. You can undo your last paste (when you copy and paste things) by shaking the iPad and then press the “Undo Paste” button
  3. You can go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility and set your iPad so pressing the home button three times quickly will make everything go to inverse colors
  4. You can hold a letter on a keyboard to see more options for it (for example, if you held down the “a” key, it would give you an option for “a” with all of the different accent variations
  5.  In Safari or Mail, if you tap the top bar at the top of the page, it will automatically scroll up to the top
  6. While typing, if you tap the space bar twice quickly, it will put a period and then a space, which saves you some time if you are typing a lot of sentences
  7. When typing on the iPad 2, you can quickly type an apostrophe by clicking the comma key and flicking up
  8. Stick your ipad on Mute - Just hold down the Volume reduce button or flick the switch on the side of the iPad
  9. Find word frequency in Safari - If you type in the word you want into the Google search box then scroll down the list of suggestions you will see “On This Page” as an option along with number of times is appears
  10. Intruder alert - Delete all information - If you have sensitive information on your iPad 2 then go to Settings / General / Passcode Lock / Erase Data. This means that any secret agents or suspicious partners who put in the wrong password 10 times will cause all the info on the machine to be erased.
  11. Find apps easily - From the Home screen, swipe left and you'll get the Search screen, where you can quickly type the name of the app you want to launch—and predictive typing makes things even faster. Search will not only surface your apps (first), but your media, e-mail messages, calendar events, and more
  12. To save email photo attachments - If you get a picture with an e-mail message, tap on it, and you'll get a pop-up menu that gives you the option to Copy or Save Image. Select the latter, and the image will be saved to your Camera Roll. The former lets you paste the image into another application
  13. Pin it - MAPS - Hold down a finger on any point to drop a pin on the map. You'll get a pop-up: The orange icon on the left shows the street view at the point you've selected, and the blue icon on the right brings up a dialog that offers directions to or from that point, among other options including sharing that location via e-mail
  14. Customize the side switch:   Ipad has a simple design with only get three control buttons: the Home button below the screen, Volume Up and Down buttons on the top right panel, and a customizable switch right above. That switch can either act as a mute control or a screen orientation lock, which basically disables the iPad's accelerometer. Go to Settings>General and under "Use Side Switch To:" choose either Lock Rotation or Mute.
  15. Multitasking - Multitasking is a welcome addition to iOS, but once you open an app, it stays open, unless you manually close it. Two quick hits of the Home button can show you the apps you have running, and depending on how many there are, you might need to swipe to the right a couple of times to see them all. Press and hold on one icon, and they'll all start shaking (like when you move icons around on your Home screen). Tap on the small red minus sign in the top left corner of its icon to kill that app.
  16. Add a webpage shortcut icon - Just navigate to that page and to the immediate left of the address bar, you'll see an arrow icon; press it, and you'll get a dropdown with the option to "Add to Home Screen." You can even rename the icon whatever you want, and you'll have one-click access to that page right from the Home screen.

Split keyboard - hidden feature

There’s a set of hidden or invisible keys that sit just beside T, G, and V on the left side of the split keyboard, and just beside Y, H, and B on the right side. As you can see in the image shown above, you can tap in the blank area just outside the keyboard next to the T (outside of the keyboard background too) to get a Y, and type just outside the keyboard next to the Y in order to get a T, and so on.

To move the split keyboard out of your way while working -- While your cursor is within any text area, tap and hold on the keyboard toggle button at the bottom right of the keyboard (the one shown in the screencap at the top of this post). While you tap and hold, just drag the keyboard to where you want it to be. Maybe just above the block of text you’re working with for example. Note that if you drag it all the way to bottom of the screen the keyboard will dock and merge itself again.
